Microsoft Windows XP has almost completed a decade since its inception in 2001, however, still the operating system has the largest user-base owing to its user-oriented features. There were four editions of this operating system which were launched including Windows XP Home Edition, which was targeted at home users, Windows XP Professional, which offered support for Windows Server domains and dual processor, and was targeted at business and enterprise clients, Windows XP Media Center Edition which is first-of-its-kind operating system till date, entirely devoted for entertainment and thereby supporting multimedia features and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition which was meant for the first time for 64-bit processors.
However, the official sale of the Windows XP has ended but you can update your installed version with the Service Pack 3 (SP3) to enhance security, performance, and stability. You need to turn on Automatic Updates, which can automatically download SP3 when it's available for your computer. You can also get the update directly from the Microsoft website. To get installed Service Pack 3 your computer must have Internet Explorer versions 6, 7 or 8.[ Service Pack 3 introduces some new features including Network Access Protection (NAP), which helps administrators to array out system health requirements means to check whether the system has recent operating system updates installed, whether the computer has the latest version of the antivirus signature, or whether the computer has a host-based firewall installed and enabled. Computers which are not matching the required criteria won't be able to access the network. Administrator can also set Group Policy which means assigning permissions to integrated networked computers so as to secure the network data from any unauthorized access. Hence, SP3 is extremely useful for businesses and enterprises.
